MATAPAT podcast with Ronald Gadayan and host, Ana de Villa-Singson

“HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY!” This well-known adage is not always easy to implement. At times, situations arise when temptations and material needs and attachments can challenge our choices on being honest. Not so for Ronald Gadayan, Tibok Pinoy’s featured speaker for the value of Honesty. Ronald has been a janitor in the NAIA Terminal 2 for over 14 years. In the course of those 14 years, he has seen passengers leave behind many valuables such as cash, jewelry, cellphones, portable electronics. Once, he even found a Louis Vuitton bag left in the passenger terminal. That bag contained close to Php 2.5 Million pesos, but Ronald did not once hesitate to return it to its owner. As per NAIA 2 policy, he handed it over to the Lost and Found. When asked if he wavered even once, if he was tempted even once to keep the bag and its contents. His answer was swift: “Ay, hindi po!” He was taught by his father, that honesty cannot be bought at any price and that their being poor is not an excuse to live dishonestly. An honest man…how rare it is to find one who practices honesty consistently, who has become an example and inspiration to his family who, like him, have upheld his example with their own acts of honesty and integrity. Is honesty difficult to practice? Yes, at times it can be. But for Ronald the choice is clear cut. There is no gray area when it comes to right or wrong. We simply have to do what is honest and good and right. Listen to Ronald. And be inspired! Then let us dig deep within ourselves and find the same clarity and conviction towards choosing what honesty always.

She was a legislator and member of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission. Samira is also a passionate environmentalist. Samira urges the youth to be involved. She invokes the Orosa vs. Factoran case where youths between 11-13 years of age went up and won against the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in their fight against the granting of timber licenses which would result in massive tree cutting.
