In light of the serious allegations recently made public by Rep. Zaldy Co, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines calls for truth, justice, and due process to prevail. If his accusations are indeed credible and substantial, we urge him to return to the country and file his charges before the proper authorities, under oath, and supported by verifiable evidence. Public declarations on social media, however alarming, cannot take the place of formal testimony in the appropriate legal venues. For the good of the nation, such claims must be examined transparently, impartially, and in accordance with the rule of law.
We likewise caution against the political exploitation of these allegations, especially when released at sensitive moments that may inflame public sentiment or be used to influence political outcomes. The Filipino people deserve clarity, not conjecture; truth, not rumor; accountability, not manipulation. We appeal to all parties involved to act with honesty, courage, and responsibility. May every step taken in this matter serve the cause of justice and strengthen—rather than erode—our people’s trust in the institutions tasked with safeguarding our democracy.

Kaugnay ng seryosong paratang na inilabas kamakailan ni Rep. Zaldy Co, nananawagan ang Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines na pairalin ang katotohanan, katarungan, at tamang proseso. Kung totoo at mabigat ang kanyang mga ibinibintang, nararapat lamang na siya’y umuwi sa bansa at ihain ang kanyang reklamo sa tamang hukuman, sa ilalim ng panunumpa, at may kasamaang matibay na ebidensya. Hindi sapat ang paglalabas ng pahayag sa social media; ang mga ganitong akusasyon ay dapat iharap sa mga ahensyang may kapangyarihang magsiyasat. Para sa kabutihan ng bayan, mahalagang masuri ito nang bukas, patas, at ayon sa batas.
Nanawagan din kami na mag-ingat laban sa anumang pagsasamantala sa isyung ito, lalo na kung inilalabas ito sa mga panahong maaaring magpasiklab ng emosyon o makaimpluwensya sa pulitika. Karapatan ng taong-bayan ang linaw, hindi haka-haka; katotohanan, hindi tsismis; pananagutan, hindi panlilinlang. Hinihikayat namin ang lahat ng sangkot na kumilos nang tapat, matapang, at may pananagutan. Nawa’y ang bawat hakbang na gagawin ay magsilbi sa paghahanap ng katotohanan at magpatibay ng tiwala ng mamamayan sa mga prosesong nagtatanggol sa ating demokrasya.
